John says that his mother always listened to classical music and so at age 5 he began violin lessons. When John was 15 his next door neighbor approached him to play bass for his band, assuming that since it had four strings like a violin he could learn it easily. Although it turned out to be a totally different instrument, John took to bass very quickly and has never picked up a violin since. John's main influences include Chris Squire, Steve Harris and Geddy Lee and their respective bands Yes, Iron Maiden and Rush. He also listens to bands like Jane's Addiction, King's X and The Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as classical and blues. John is the only band member still living on Long Island, together with his wife Lisa. When not on the road, John likes to go fishing, exercise and read. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Myung's Discography 1989 Dream Theater When Dream And Day Unite MCA/Mechanix 1992 Dream Theater Images And Words Atlantic/ATCO 1993 Dream Theater Live At The Marquee WEA International 1994 Dream Theater Awake Elektra 1995 Dream Theater A Change Of Seasons Elektra 1997 Dream Theater Falling Into Infinity Elektra 1998 Platypus When Pus Comes To Shove InsideOut 1998 Dream Theater Once In A LIVEtime Elektra 1999 Gordian Knot Gordian Knot Sensory 1999 Dream Theater Scenes From A Memory WEA/Elektra 2000 Platypus Ice Cycles InsideOut -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Myung's Videography 1993 Dream Theater Images and Words (Tokyo) Sony 1996 John Myung Progressive Bass Concepts 1998 Dream Theater 5 Years In A LIVEtime Elektra
